Adidas LDN

Oxford Street Global Flagship

Client: Adidas | Principal Contractor: Powells Ltd | Architect: DB3 Architecture | Project Value: £14 million

About

Saxon Safety was appointed as Health, Safety and CDM advisors by the principal contractor, to assist with the safe delivery of this global flagship store in the heart of Oxford Street.

The project consisted of complete fit-out of a concrete shell, coordinating the build, and managing multiple client direct contractors. The project covered five floors, with a total area of 50,000 sq. Ft. The building was shared, with offices and residential apartments above and to the rear.

What We Did

  • Wrote and updated the construction phase plan.
  • Carried out a Fire Risk Assessment and kept it updated as the project progressed.
  • Liaised with the tenants above on H+S matters.
  • Maintained the project risk register during the construction phase.
  • Supported the temporary works procedures.
  • Carried out weekly site audits.
  • Monitored and managed over 50 sub-contract companies, including specialist contractors based in Europe:
  • Gave a briefing of what we need from them before they can start on site.
  • Reviewed risk assessments, method statements and training records.
  • We supported some suppliers who don’t typically work commercially or who hadn’t worked in the U.K before, with risk assessment and method statement
    preparation.

Challenges

The sheer number of companies and people working on-site, with a relatively short project duration, meant everything had to be ready swiftly, and issues dealt with promptly.

Deliveries can always be difficult in central London, especially the sheer number anticipated in this project. Saxon Safety supported the planning of this, and helped create a delivery plan, and risk assessment to make sure this was as safe as possible.

We helped apply for permits for out of hours deliveries across Oxford Street.

We kept the site team updated with a sub-contractor tracker, showing where we were with risk assessment and method statement reviews in line with their start dates on site. The project was a success, handing over 2 days early, and it was a fantastic project to be involved with, working with an experienced site team.
