Sub-Contractor Roles and Responsibilities

What is a Sub-Contractor?

A subcontractor is a person or business in charge of doing a specific part of the construction work, and under the CDM regulations, you have a duty to plan, manage and monitor the work you’re responsible for. If a subcontractor works for a principal contractor, they may also have extra responsibilities.

What are the roles of a Sub-Contractor?

If you’re a subcontractor, you’ll be a vital part of the success of most projects, and we help many subcontractors, from all trades, to make sure they manage their risks on site. We can do this by:

Helping create risk assessments, method statements and health and safety policies.

Making sure you fulfil all your legal obligations.

Helping you comply with any additional requirements set out by the principal contractor.

Contractors and the workers under their supervision are particularly susceptible to injuries and health issues in the construction industry. Therefore, contractors play a pivotal role in the planning, management, and monitoring of their work, ensuring effective control of any associated risks.
