About

T.A. Fisher, undertaking the transformative Malthouse Mews development in Hartley Wintney, appointed Saxon Safety as their Health, Safety, and CDM advisors.

This collaboration aimed to successfully navigate the roles of the Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor, enabling the project’s success while ensuring safety and legal compliance. Malthouse Mews, situated in the heart of Hartley Wintney village centre, involved the demolition of an existing joinery workshop and the subsequent construction of eight 2-bedroom houses and 1-bedroom coach houses.

Carried out an initial site survey, discussing the key site issues and constraints.
Produced Pre-Construction information.
Reviewed Designers risk assessments.
Submitted the F10 to the HSE.
Reviewed the Demolition Principal Contractors' Documentation.
Carried out site inspections during demolition.
Wrote and updated the construction phase plan for the build phase.

Carried out a Fire Risk Assessment and kept it updated as the project progressed.

Produced risk assessments and method statements for the Principal Contractors' works.

Reviewed Contractors' Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

Reviewed lift plans.

Carried out regular site inspections throughout the project.

Challenges

Access to the site was restricted, so consideration had to be given at the planning stage for deliveries, the phasing of the works and maintaining suitable welfare facilities throughout the construction phase.

There was a fire station adjacent to the site, so it was of critical importance that this was not impeded in any way, so robust traffic management and liaison were key.

This was the first project we’ve completed with T.A. Fisher from inception through to completion and it was pleasing to support every phase of the project from design, demolition through the construction phase and managing the last parts of the build whilst some plots were occupied.
